For one year I worked at the permaculture garden project SEED in Mitchells Plain, Rocklands. And I can say that at the end I kind of found my part in the project. Hannah and me completed our Little Green Corner project with a fifth grade.
It was great to see the results and the glad faces of the kids.
Furthermore, we took part at the second school’s holiday program in July. On the one hand it was difficult to watch over so many kids but on the other hand we had a lot of fun. We definitely learned from the first program and could share these experiences with the organiser of this program to prevent problems. So all in all we managed to build a scarecrow and a few other things with the kids, which they really appreciated.
In the second week of July the APT (Applied Permaculture Training) started. Three weeks we learned how to design a permaculture garden. We received so much knowledge about water catchment, food forests, mushrooms and more. This course was a good way to understand what’s going on in the garden. I’m glad that we worked in the garden before so it made it easier to understand all the things. But at the same time I was disappointed that we didn’t have the course at the beginning. It would have so been so much easier to know what to do.
All in all, I really enjoyed working at SEED because the people I worked with are so confident and passionate. It made me feel the same. And even that we didn’t have much to do the experience effected my life as much as nothing else. Not only that I learned about permaculture and gardening also that I learned about life.
